Once the holidays are over and the decorations are packed away, the “urge to purge” becomes strong early in the new year. Whether it’s organizing a closet that’s too full, decluttering your kitchen or giving your garage a makeover, sometimes the larger challenge is where to take the items you’ve decided to part with. It always helps to break them down to three categories: DONATE, RECYCLE and STORE.
For quality items that can be sold in resale shops to benefit worthy non-profits, please consider:
The Unique Resale, 1022 McCall Ave., Conroe
benefiting the Community Assistance Center
Angel Loft Resale, 2121 Timber Lane, Conroe
benefitting Angel Reach, an organization that help young adults who have aged out of foster care or are homeless
Society of Samaritans Resale Shop, 31355 Friendship Drive, Suite 500, Magnolia
benefitting SOS Ministries
Hope Resale, 19786 Hwy 105, Suite 140, Montgomery
A non-profit that provides HOPE and support for widows, orphans and single parents
Visit the links for each organization for a list of the type of donations that they accept. If you don’t believe your items are worthy of resale, here are other options to consider, many which will let you schedule a pickup:
Community Assistance Center
Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County, TX
The Salvation Army – Conroe
Montgomery County Recycling Centers
There are four Montgomery County Recycle Centers that accept a wide range of items including batteries, plastic, paper, glass, aluminum, steel, motor oil, tires, toxics, refrigerators, computer printers and more although each may be slightly different. Be sure to check your Precinct’s webpage for their hours, location and list of what they do and do not accept.
In Precinct 1, the Conroe/North Montgomery County Recycle Center serves the Willis area and North/Northwest Montgomery County. They have already scheduled their Spring 2024 Heavy Trash Event for Saturday, March 16th.
The Magnolia area and West Montgomery County is served by Precinct 2 and South Montgomery County and The Woodlands area are in Precinct 3. The New Caney area and East Montgomery County are in Precinct 4 with their facility located in New Caney.
The cities of Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, Willis and others have their own recycling program or services. Be sure to review their services as well.
Consider putting your holiday decorations, summer recreational gear or other items that you are keeping but don’t need on a daily basis in storage. It will free up space in your home, garage or office that you can use the rest of the year.
